the art of doing something.

“The Art of Doing Something is a philosophy I have embraced to create art that I feel good about. I hope it inspires people to get a little more involved in making the world a better place to live in.” – Brian Gossett

That is exactly why I love Brian and why his art makes me happy.

Do you feel like getting up and doing something? Yeah, me too!

P.S.

Do Something out of kindness
to make someone smile
to help for a cause you believe in
that’s bigger than yourself
that makes you happy
for a change
to feed your soul
awesome, or rad
for the kids
not for the money, but for the love
Do Something & feel good again!

follicle girls.

They remind you of Fifi Lapin, right?

These are illustrations by Rolando Robinson. He calls them ‘The Follicles‘ and at first they did not have bodies – only heads and long hair.

Now as you know, the possibilities of a Molekine – well, it is pretty much, endless.

So, one day Rolando decided that these little Follicle girls need bodies and he thought it would be cute if they wore little dresses.

Origami dresses, of course.

Just look at these cute, little, origami dresses.

Narrylikes these. They remind me of the paper dolls I used to play with on Sunday afternoons (back in the 80s).

Do you want to hear an interesting fact? Okay, maybe more random than interesting. My mom had a Natalie Wood paper doll (during the late 50s) and she fell in love with the name. Guess where my name comes from?

Now if you do not mind, please excuse me, because I have to find colorful paper to make little origami dresses.

book of shadows.

“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens, brown paper packages tied up with strings, these are a few of my favorite things…”

Urban Decay introduced their Book of Shadows Vol III.

Oh my! Urban Decay, pink hearts, NYC, pop ups, illustrations, bright colors and makeup – these are ALL some of my favorite things.

Too much, too much.

Head over to Temptalia for a full review – these look amazing.

oh blue bird.

Strangely creepy, yet I cannot stop staring. Yeah, they knocked both “birds” out, but at the same time it is “cute”. No, it is not cute, I did not say that. No, no, no – it is creepy and that is all.

rubens lp.

Brazilian illustrator, Rubens LP, has such a great style. He has won a few awards (I am guessing there will be more), he has a blog and he said that you can buy his posters too.

Is it just me, or can I hear someone say ‘tattoo‘?

postcarden.

PostCarten is a postable, pop-up box with seeds. The football edition has a retro cover illustration by Ross Tereperk and it also comes with your own miniature football pitch that has upright goalposts and a flickable ball.

Just in time for the World Cup and maybe you can send it to someone who won’t be able to make it to South Africa to experience the 2010 gees (spirit).

fine kohl.

Moleskine art has it’s advantages, one of them? You can scan your illustrations and they look extra coooler, because you scanned your Moleskine at the same time.

I like these by Fine Kohl.

draw your favourite product.

Just draw. I am quick to tell everyone else to doodle and scribble down notes everyday. “You have to learn to keep a baby Moleskine with you at all times.” Do I ever listen to my own advice? No.

I have been a huge fan of The Selby (as you should know by now), and a part that I always look forward to is the very last image on each page. The one with all the questions and doodles. Quick go there, you will see what I am talking about – but before you go!

Have a look at Japanese designer, Shin Azumi‘s version of something similar. Nope, you will not find this one at The Selby. It is a random find, but the “draw your favourite product” part made me smile.

What would you draw?
