They perform basic research with a strong focus on translating scientific results into pharmaceutical, agricultural and industrial applications. For their fifteenth anniversary, we did the entire event branding, for which we used only chalk and a huge blackboard. For this event we also designed a box with nine books in it. For the books only we made more then 200 large chalk drawings.”

Growing up I had paper dolls. No, I am not that old.

My mom made the dolls for us and Sunday afternoons were spent paging through magazines and cutting out ‘fabric’ for their clothes. Eventually I figured out that I can make my own dolls too – using a cereal box. The faces of these dolls probably did not look as good as the ones my mom made, but I created these little people and they had new clothes every week – designed by, me.

Later when I realized that it is more fun to design clothes for Barbie and co, I got fabric off cuts and pretended to know how the sewing machine worked. My Barbie dolls had all kinds of dresses and early 90s outfits.

These were a hands-on approach, skipping the process of drawing the design and making a pattern. Both processes which I wish I could master. Which probably explains why I am in awe every time I see fashion illustrations like these.

Jessica Quirk (What I Wore), your illustrations make me smile, happy and at the same time want to go home and draw. If only I knew how to draw like you.

Linda Dearie is one of my new favorites. There are so many blogs dedicated to ‘look what I wore today’ and I have to admit that most of them are boring and none of them really stand out. Just another blog. Yes, I know Narrylikes is just another blog too, but you know what I mean.

Then there are websites like Chictopia and Lookbook – more photos of people and ‘look what I wore today’.

This morning I discovered Little Tin Soldier and I ended up clicking, and clicking, and clicking and I could not stop. Linda not only takes photos of her outfits, but she draws a picture too. It was so refreshing to go through all her different looks.
