15 years vib – making of covers.

The ooh‘s and the aah‘s when it comes to blackboards. This however does not make me ooh or aah, well, not really – it brings out a Lady Gaga AAAOOOWWW!

No, I do not speak German.

“VIB is a life sciences research institute, based in Flanders, Belgium. They perform basic research with a strong focus on translating scientific results into pharmaceutical, agricultural and industrial applications. For their fifteenth anniversary, we did the entire event branding, for which we used only chalk and a huge blackboard. For this event we also designed a box with nine books in it. For the books only we made more then 200 large chalk drawings.”

what i wore: illustrations.

If you have to draw a person, does it generally look like a stick? I find it quite funny, because people tend to forget the ears and eyebrows.

Growing up I had paper dolls. No, I am not that old.

My mom made the dolls for us and Sunday afternoons were spent paging through magazines and cutting out ‘fabric’ for their clothes. Eventually I figured out that I can make my own dolls too – using a cereal box. The faces of these dolls probably did not look as good as the ones my mom made, but I created these little people and they had new clothes every week – designed by, me.

Later when I realized that it is more fun to design clothes for Barbie and co, I got fabric off cuts and pretended to know how the sewing machine worked. My Barbie dolls had all kinds of dresses and early 90s outfits.

These were a hands-on approach, skipping the process of drawing the design and making a pattern. Both processes which I wish I could master. Which probably explains why I am in awe every time I see fashion illustrations like these.

Jessica Quirk (What I Wore), your illustrations make me smile, happy and at the same time want to go home and draw. If only I knew how to draw like you.

Note to self: work on that chunky marker collection.

‘Nice window decal.’
Nope, take a closer look.

Wait, can it be hand drawn? Yes.

Uh huh, look.

Hello, I’m ZSO. (AKA Sara Blake.) I’m an illustrator, designer, and fine artist living and loving in New York City.

I graduated from New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study with a concentration in Graphic Art and Postmodern Studies—I’ve been working in design and art direction ever since. With a background in advertising I now work as a freelance illustrator and exhibiting artist, as well as work as a small one woman design shop offering digital services.

If you liked that TEDx Brooklyn will make your sink into the floor (I am assuming it has already dropped).

Thank you Stevie Ray for introducing me to Sarah.

how do you draw emotion?

Like this. Full stop.

Aitor Throup, you are some kind of amazing.
Thank you for sharing, Ani.

the path of a doer.

A little book by David Hieatt & Andy Smith.
A little book you probably want (and need).

Well, I do!

You can order your copy here.

P.S. Dear David and Andy, why did you make it yellow and red? Are these 2 colors supposed to make the doer do things faster?

inslee haynes.

Wait, you knew about Inslee, but you never told me?
I am not quite sure how I feel about this – at all.

Inslee Haynes, the talented lady behind The Sketch Book. Thank you, thank you!

My jaw literally dropped.

These illustrations make me happy and remind me of all the dreams Narry had around age 5.

nothing to fear.

Impressive work by Simon Russell.

Those black lines, oooh.
Love the little hidden messages too.

what shall i wear today?

Style Secrets of a Furry Fashionista. Fifi Lapin, who else?

Elle Magazine calls her “the world’s most stylish bunny” and she now has a book – dedicated to style. Fifi’s style.

I think I need this. Free shipping even – anywhere in the world, because the world needs Fifi. I mean come on, what were you thinking? Pfft.

There are more pictures on her blog that you have to see. And you will have to order your copy as soon as possible, before they are all gone.

What? You do not know who Fifi Lapin is? Oh my.

“Hi, I’m Fifi Lapin… I was born one of 257 brothers and sisters but sadly there was an outbreak of myxomatosis when I was just one year old… I was the only one that survived. My parents are therefore incredibly protective of me and spoil me rotten. I’m an hare-ss to my fathers fortune which he made playing fast and loose with carrot and lettuce shares on the international stock market. There are a lot of rabbits out there eating carrots and lettuce so I guess he just struck gold (or orange you might say). Some people think I’m just a socialite but I think there is more to me than just an extremely stylish clotheshorse!”

And my favorite little doodle. The cute, little shoes.

You might want to order that book now.

dear little tin soldier.

Thank you for making my Monday rainbow bright and reminding me why I love navy blue clothes.

Linda Dearie is one of my new favorites. There are so many blogs dedicated to ‘look what I wore today’ and I have to admit that most of them are boring and none of them really stand out. Just another blog. Yes, I know Narrylikes is just another blog too, but you know what I mean.

Then there are websites like Chictopia and Lookbook – more photos of people and ‘look what I wore today’.

This morning I discovered Little Tin Soldier and I ended up clicking, and clicking, and clicking and I could not stop. Linda not only takes photos of her outfits, but she draws a picture too. It was so refreshing to go through all her different looks.

I love her style and creativity.

Thank you Little Tin Soldier!

aidan’s monsters.

Aidan loves all things scary. He also likes drawing and dressing up. On September 13, 2010 – Aidan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He had his first round of chemo, but has at least another 2 to 3 years of chemo treatments to go.

This is Aidan. He is 5-years-old. Ouff. That is tough for a little 5-year-old, but so far he is doing well.

These are some of his monsters.

Spongebob and the gang.

Do you like monsters? These are cute, huh?

You can buy your own original drawing at Aidan’s Etsy store. You can also make a donation or just say hi, at AidForAidan.
