let them eat cake.

“If they have no bread, let them eat cake.”

That’s what they say and that is what I believe is true, especially when it comes to this rainbow cake.

Thanks to my dear friend, Ciera – who plans on baking her own.

choco brownies baby.

Old school Fudge Brownies with Walnuts

Yes, this will be happening at Narry’s Hole. Narry’s baby oven will be making lots of choco brownie things. Not quite sure which one to make first. Hmmm…

You can get all the recipes at Joy The Baker and Joy took all the photos too – pffft, of course. We ♥ Joy The Baker!

there is an oven in the hole.

After 5 years of living in Narry’s Hole, my tiny little apartment, my mamas decided that it’s time this child gets an oven. So now I am the proud owner of a baby oven who (he has a name) makes bran muffins – with raisins, cranberries and walnuts – on Sunday mornings. Oooh de-lee-cee-ous.

I have already had 4 of the small ones in the two front rows. Please note the over-achievers in the back row. They got some of the extra “leftover” batter.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to share, because the plan is to gain weight during the cold winter months. So far – no luck.

i want an oven.

Narry’s Hole (my apartment) has a tiny kitchen and this tiny kitchen does not have space for an oven. Boo hoo. I miss baking. Which is probably why I like Joy, the baker.

Another reason why I love Joy is because red velvet cupcakes are one of her favorite recipes. I love Billy and Joy’s red velvet cupcakes remind me of Billy.

Right, back to the oven. With almost no space, I am thinking small. Unfortunately the Easy-Bake oven is the only thing that came to mind. Do you think it might be able to bake red velvet cupcakes?

kumquat cupcakery.

Just had the very last bite of my peanut butter on warm, crispy toast – but I promise it tasted like a cupcake while looking at all the mini delights from Kumquat Cupcakery.

Oh Brooklyn, we are meant to be. Brooklyn, New York, cupcake (and graffiti) hunts = my life.

These are real cupcakes and you will know when you find a real cupcake. A real cupcake is made with love and that is exactly what owner, Keavy Landreth, had in mind.

“Kumquat Cupcakery was born on October 15, 2007, when a dream, a sweet tooth, and a love for pleasing aesthetics were combined. With education from the Culinary Institute of America, The French Culinary Institute, and a BFA from Parsons School of Design, owner Keavy Landreth has set out to change the look and taste of cupcakes in NYC. Taking inspiration from the many gourmet patisseries around Manhattan, Keavy creates cupcakes that are enjoyed like a truffle or bonbon. Each one is appreciated for its bite sized stature, bold flavors, and specialized look.”

With flavors like Vanilla, Banana, PB Banana Honey, Lemon & Lavender, Strawberries, Orange Poppy Seed, Maple Bacon, Coffee Caramel Bourbon, Carrot, Pumpkin, Red Velvet, Dark Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Pstachio, Chocolate Orange and Chocolate Blueberry – I would not know where to start. Luckily these bite-size treats are small enough and that (of course) makes it okay to have a few. Now the most important question of them all; which one do you have first?

where are you cupcake?

I would love to have a job trying to find the creamiest cupcake or chewiest cookie in the world. The world’s bestest bakery according to Narry. Sounds like a dream, huh?

Today’s discovery is the Bakelab. They have quite a few unique goodies from cupcakes to giant cakes (look at their gallery for an imaginary taste sensation) and then there are a few interesting treats like these.

If you are too scared of food color poisoning – then I think you should try the mushroom meringues. Kah-ute.

whimsy & spice.

By now, everyone knows that I have a slight obsession with Billy’s Bakery. Their red velvet cupcakes are honestly one of the best things I have ever tasted. Yes, I am very serious when I say that and I will even put my name on it.

Today I discovered Whimsy & Spice. Located in Brooklyn and by the looks of it, it will mostly likely be my weekly supplier of cookies. Just look at it – double YUM.

Chocolate Orange Cardamom, Honey Lavender, Brown Sugar Gingerspice, Cinnamon Chocolate Malt, Chocolate Chili Cashew, Chocolate Gingersnaps – to name a few.

For now Woolies “Suikerkoekies” will have to do. Have you tried those? No? Go to Woolies now, as in right now. I promise you will kinda, sorta fall in love.
