I actually took part in this GO FORTH campaign; Levi's sponsored a series of events and workshops in Berlin supporting the arts and social change projects. I attended about 3 of the silk screening workshops. Apart from learning a new AMAZING skill I got to share a few pretty insightful afternoons with young people from all over Europe who've all come to Berlin for it's edge and opportunity. It's like there's a sense of action and movement here. Things still matter to people. I think that sometimes as South Africans and Namibians we have it so easy. I'm not saying that we didn't work hard to get there but I think comfort sometimes breeds complacency.

I was pretty shocked by this but I can definitely say that there is a sense of despondency among young Europeans about their future and I think that A LOT of it has to do with the capitalist system as well as democracies no longer being able to most effectively put people first. In a way, I really do think that socialism is the way to go and that Germany is good example of what can be achieved. Taking to the streets and looting, as we've seen in London, is NOT the answer. But what I will say, is that I have respect for people who do actively engage and make themselves heard for what they feel and know is important. And I think that this is the gist of the campaign - to not be a fence sitter. Life is for the living and Berlin has taught me that.
