have you seen . . .

While we are discussing ‘awesomeness‘, have you seen this cat?

Yes, you probably have – but what about him?

Saw this a while ago, but I laugh every single time. Too funny.

the little ones.

This is Beaudin Lovinsky, he is 4 years old.

He has been living with his uncle (left), since he lost his mom during the earthquake in Haiti last year.

Sadly, his uncle cannot afford to take care of him any longer, which is why he has his little suitcase with all his belongings next to him.

When I read ‘all his belongings’, it broke my heart. It changes the meaning of ‘all dressed up and nowhere to go’, huh?

Beaudin now lives in an orphanage, ‘which is currently housed in makeshift tents in a tent city near the airport in Port-au-Prince, Haiti‘.

‘The orphanage has received no governmental assistance and little help from aid groups. According to the United Nations Children’s Fund, Haiti was home to more than 350,000 orphans before the earthquake, with many more orphaned following the quake. UNICEF recently announced that around 380,000 Haitian children are still living in camps one year after the earthquake.’

No, I am not doing this to make you feel bad. I am asking you to think of the kids in your city. Children, like Beaudin, who can do with a sponsor of some sorts.

Find out how you can help. Google is your best friend, and there are many websites that accept donations and explain how you can sponsor a child. It does not cost much.

the butt station.

For Narry, this is a necessity. No, it is not important to have sticky tape or paper clips even, but I need this little guy aka ‘The Butt Station’ for my desk. Just because.

I prefer the green one, and as you can see, his bootay is magnetic.

The Butt Station (yes, the name is ew) is available at various stores, all you need to do is? Google.

puzzle calendar.

Every year, usually close to the end, calendars for the new year pop up all over the place. The one you see today will be 10 times better than the one you saw yesterday, but you already ordered one a week ago. Now what?

Okay, maybe you can get one for work and another for home? But after the new year they are usually on sale. So, should you wait til Feb?

I should have done that, because due to a busier-than-expected January, I haven’t even let the pen touch the paper.

It is now February. Well, almost.

Which is why I would like to thank designer Yan Yunyong for this clever design – the Puzzle Calendar.

There is no need to explain this one. I really hope that it has magnets, because it would be even more perfect for the fridge.

phinde says hi.

Cute gift wrap, huh? My favorite. The default from now on, boy, girl, man, woman – or dog.

The lady who keeps our office clean and fresh (sometimes the carpet cleaner irritates the nostrils, but we have learned how to deal with that), has 4 children. Her youngest daughter, Phinde, had her 11th birthday on Monday. I bought her an outfit (yes, Hello Kitty included) and a little wallet that has ‘love’ written on it.

Thought it would be a cute little extra.

I did not want to give it to her empty, so I put a 5 Rand coin into it.

Today, she sent a letter ‘to Natali’. Oh my heart.

Oh. My. Heart.

oh, that is a good idea!

You might hear yourself say those words, at least once.

A matchbox makes a cute, little sewing kit. Toilet paper rolls have more uses than one, you know? Actually, the possibilities are endless. Lemon juice removes food stains from plastic and light colored wood. Juice, let it sit for 20 minutes, rinse.

Always trying to find that darn tweezer? Magnet. Clothes slipping off the hangers? Wrap the ends with rubber bands. Are you a messy painter? Do not like sticky tape? Aluminium foil. Doh.

Unless you have fancy (or foncy) camera, you can use a plastic soap dish to protect your camera. (Fine, store anything else in it – they come in all sorts of pretty colors. Cardboard coasters as gift tags. Yesss. A binder clip serves as a key chain/money holder AND you can clamp to your waistband for a purse-free morning walk. What? Yes, too clever.

Contact-lens container = pills purse. Which reminds me, time for an eye test. You? No idea what to do with all the handbags you never use? Shower-hooks. Miracle. Wrap a paint brush (or roller) with a plastic bag and secure it with a rubber band. This will keep it moist for up to 2 days in between painting sessions.

Ew, funny looking ketchup. Do not worry, you can use an old ketchup bottle as a pancake batter dispenser. Squirt. Old, yes very ooold cassette tape holders double up as containers for earphones. Plus, if it is clear, you can see what is in it. Two thumbs up. Another ew – corn hair. Brush, brush with a toothbrush. Enjoy.

Thanks to Real Simple‘s ‘All-Time Favorite New Uses for Old Things’. There are 50 ‘good ideas’, so head over there if you would like to see the rest.

P.S. I do not trust the ‘flat iron tip’, using it to iron your shirt. Uh yeah, not too sure about that one.

short hair and flowers.

And maybe flowers in my short hair.

My long hair recently said toodle-doo and I decided to plant rainbow flowers. The dark purple ones are really that dark, and purple. Ahhh-mai-zing.

Waking up with the sun in your face. Driving with your car windows rolled down. Eating frozen blueberries. Wearing a dress and having flowers in your hair.

These are just a few reasons to love summer, and to remember that “it does not matter where you are, but where you are at”.

Love, smiles and a squeeze.

gift a stranger.

Let the fun begin!

an idiot abroad.

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant‘s masterpiece, An Idiot Abroad, is the reason why there are zero posts.

Now if you will excuse me, Karl (not Kar) is waiting. We have have 5 Wonders of the World to discover, we have already been to China (where the iPod is from) and India (where they do yoga, naked).

Watch it. Please.

joy.

“Joy is bright, bold and beautiful. Never black and white. It is color full. Color that shouts wildy and laughs freely, and loves the rush of wind on its face. Joy is pineapple yellow and cranberry cherry red, peach mango orange orange. Watch out rainbows. Here comes joy!”

Gotta love the imagination. This makes me see, feel and almost taste ‘joy’.
