team bryce.

We had a weekend celebration of ‘Team Bryce‘. Cake. Oh my goodness cake. In every shape, flavor and color.

Wrapping paper that will hurt your eyes and make you feel slightly dizzy when you stare at it for too long.

Puppy tees, kisses and cuddles.

Balloons and helium.

Beer, buckets, branding, B-cakes and Bobby.

Red velvet cake with coconut cream cheese frosting – thank you Alex @ Charly’s Bakery.

isang litrong liwanag.

‘Pepsi power.’ That is pretty much what this looks like, but how simple and at the same time – amazing – is this idea?

Isang Litrong Liwanag (A Liter of Light), is a sustainable lighting project which aims to bring the eco-friendly Solar Bottle Bulb to disprivileged communities nationwide. Designed and developed by students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Solar Bottle Bulb is based on the principles of Appropriate Technologies – a concept that provides simple and easily replicable technologies that address basic needs in developing communities. ”

where is narry?

Narry moved and found a family, including a little baby.

Narry enjoys wheat-free, dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan food. Newbie. Strawberry, banana bread – do not forget the buttermilk. Always add buttermilk. Vegan-what?

Narry enjoys online shopping a bit too much, but sometimes it is necessary.
Beach days are fun days, especially when the dogs wear hoodies.

Lately, Narry enjoys homemade soup. Bread, there has to always be bread. Warm. Crispy. Brrreaaad.

There is no home like a home filled with dogs. Puppies. Wrinkly puppies, and their little ponies.

Narry has been going for anti-aging skin treatments and started using ‘bionic face cream’ – amazing stuff. There are action heroes in the bathroom and we support the Sunflower Fund.

Food, food and more food. Birthday caaaaake and beautiful people. Food. Late night dinners and early morning dinners. Yes, I said dinner. It is all about the crispy bacon, flapjacks and maple syrup. For breakfast, not dinner.

Lately Narry climbs mountains too. A few steps closer to heaven.

Where have you been?

karmin.

KAR·MIN [car-men] -noun, in Latin meaning ‘song’, with altered spelling to hint ‘karma’.

Percussion and voice, what more do you need? Add guitar and you have what I would like to call magic. I am still blown away by their talent and the simplicity of their music.

Can simplicity blow you away? Probably not, but in this case uhhh-huh! Yesss.

Head over to Karmin’s YouTube channel, you will looove them. Here’s to Nick and Amy!

go forth.

Sensitive topic.

The music and the message makes it ‘beautiful’. With everything else that is currently happening around the world, there is probably no doubt why this ad was banned. To me it is not really a Levi’s ad and I am not exactly sure what they are trying to sell here.

Earlier I read a YouTube comment that said “watch the ad with your eyes closed”. Probably the better option.

What do you think?

In case you were wondering the poem is ‘The Laughing Heart‘ by Charles Bukowski.

‘your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is a light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you.’

Oh, right – more here.

poison & wine.

There is something about this song that makes me want to play it again. Watching the video, might make you want to consume poison and wine, because the soppy factor has been turned up to something close to depression.

Take a few minutes, hit play and admire the view (I really hope that you have one).

The rest of the day will be dedicated to east coast hip hop. Uh, bounce with me.

high & dry.

Please note: If you prefer a version without people screaming, then you should probably click here instead.

This week a friend shared a video of Jamie Cullum singing Rihanna songs. As you do, I clicked on the related videos and found a few gems. Yes, I said ‘gems’.

Today another friend mentioned High & Dry by Radiohead. Jamie, I love this version too.

Now if you will excuse me, there are a few more ‘related videos’.

50 classics for your closet: accessories.

7. Silk scarf. Any color and any design will do (probably not tartan). I am a huge fan of army green. A few patterns will not hurt either. Also, I like it when there is a hint of purple (all time favorite).

8. Shawl. This does not belong in my closet. A blanket does the same thing, in my opinion? This reminds me too much of winter, and I prefer summer. I think it will be okay if I replace the shawl with a shawl cardigan. What do you think? Fine, black shawl – there you go. Blankie.

9. Tortoise sunglasses. Um. For those days that you would like to be fancy. Foncy. They remind me of my 3rd Grade teacher. I did not particularly like her, seeing that I cried when I realized I am going to be in her class. Still sad about it. Raybans, round ones or oversized. Definitely oversized.

10.  Straw hat. For the beach, and for the beach only. Do not wear it to the mall please. Merci. Unless it is a fedora, then you can probably wear it to places, other than the beach, too. When it comes to straw hats, is bigger better?

11. Umbrella. For some reason polka dots usually come to mind when I think of umbrellas. Black is safe, but polka dots are fun and you will not have trouble finding your umbrella in a crowd. Make sure it is tiny when it folds up, nothing more annoying than carrying an umbrella in your hand, because it does not fit into your bag.

12. Opaque tights. Did someone say American Apparel? Black or dark tights will be your best friend. You can pair this with almost anything. Good to have a spare pair with you, just in case.

13. Leather handbag. Big leather bag. Small leather bag. I prefer smaller bags and a bag that you do not have to hold onto. If I have to choose my ideal leather bag (right now), it will have to be a satchel of some sort. You?

14. Evening clutch. Um, for those evenings when you only need a card, 3 coins and a lipstick. Especially those evenings when you want to hold a bag in your hand all night long. Yes, not a fan. Okay, be nice. I do like foldover clutches though. Sometimes with a chain.

15. Casual tote. A bag that is big, but not too big and that you can put many things into. These are okay. I like the other totes.

16. Colorful skinny belt. Skinny belts are great because you can wear it with pants or a dress. It looks cute over a cardi. Who would have thought? The brown one is not colorful, but I like the flower detail. Navy blue is always a favorite and yellow is a great to make your outfit pop.

17. Wide leather belt. Vintage leather, love. Dark brown, add denim, yum.

18. Lace underpinnings. No thank you.

19. Black bikini. Must-have item for the beach. It does not matter which style or cut you go for, make sure it fits. Sarongs are great when you plan on walking around quite a bit. Back in the day my friend and I walked around in our bikinis (in the street), during our South Beach holiday. It does not matter what everyone else does, it is not a good look. Errr.

mini warbler: kellen mirador sarmiento.

Glee can be very annoying at times. Okay, most of the time. I stopped watching Season 2, because I could not take it anymore.

Earlier today a friend called to ask if I would like to go to the movies – we ended up watching Glee: The 3D Concert. Yes, I did sing out loud and danced in my seat. There were about 30 people in the cinema (oops), but they did not seem to mind. Yesss, I will be going again during the week, to watch it again. Yes, again.

Singing, dancing, Gleeks sharing their stories and then you are introduced to Kellen, the Mini Warbler.

I could not stop laughing and aw-ing. How can you not love Kellen? My hero.

50 classics for your closet: shoes.

1. Ballet flats. Red, black, grey and leopard print - or florals, whichever print you prefer. Obviously you do not need all of these – black will do – but it makes it better to have a few options, right? Also, keep it plain, a bow might be cute, but leave that for your hair or a peter pan collar.

2. Loafers. I am not sure about these. If I have to choose a pair, it’ll have to be Fred Perry by Amy Winehouse - the grey moccasin stitched shoe. Loafers, pfft.

3. Sneakers. Do you think of exercise when you hear that word? The only sneakers I really want to wear are Converse. White, slim jersey and greens or greys.

4. Sandals. I do not care what your mama said about how pretty your feet are, sandals are ugly. Feet are odd. Nevermind a pedicure, please make sure your toenails are cut. You will feel better about the whole situation too. Um, these thongs by French Connection are quite nice. Havaianas are good for beach days and Forever21 is always great, for anything.

5. Black pumps. Pointy black heels are ugly. Been there, done that and your feet do not have to look 3 sizes bigger than its actual size – unless you have super small feet. The classic black heel by Rupert Sanderson saves the day. Slightly rounded toe and still super high – yesss. Even though a simple nude pump is not on the list, I think it might have to be item number 51.

6. Tall boots. Something I do not have many of, because I can’t find a pair that I love. If there is no love, then I am not going to buy it. That, is how I feel about boots. Madewell, you usually save the day. Just look at the archive leather boot. The color, english saddle. Thank you Madewell, thank you.

Another shoe that is not on ‘the list’, but I think every lady needs a glass slipper, right? Any color will do, or better – both. Mr Louboutin, you beauty.
