surf nyc.

See you soon my city. Love you NY.

the new yorker ipad app.

I have been wanting to have a look at The New Yorker iPad app. Everybody is talking about it, but I have not had time -  til now.

Oh my.

oupa’s office.

Interesting window. Nice decorations. Beautiful reflection.
Let’s stick to interesting.

On the other side of this window you will see my Oupa’s office. He was born in 1922.
He likes to collect – everything. If you can stick it to a wall, that is even better.

His office is in the ou huis (old house), where my mom was born. Nobody lives there and it is mostly used for storage, and his collections – of course.

I can spend hours here, digging for – well, anything and everything.

I took these photos in 2008.

doing it, happily.

“If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life.”

Let’s add something to that.

If you are happy with who you are, it does not matter where you are.

I have been living in Narry’s Hole for 5 and a half years. The Hole got its name, because it is small, old and I never liked it. The Hole still has the ‘originals’ – the kitchen still has the wonky wooden cabinets with the red ‘marble’ counter top. The bathroom still has magic mint green tiles and a black toilet. Yup, very 70s, but not necessarily the cool 70s.

“Ugh, this is not good enough.”

The majority of people around me constantly had problems, some would complain about work, and nothing would ever be good enough.

And then? What happened then? I got stuck in a rut.

And then? Then I went to bed one day. Woke up the next morning and decided enough is enough.

The easy option is to run away. If you forget about your past and all the daily reminders of who you are, it is easier to move on, right? Stop lying to yourself.

Honesty is key. Being honest no matter what. Do not lie, not to others and not to yourself.

I started doing what I love, looked at my bucket list and thought ‘why not?’.

Today, I am happy with myself. Painted my bedroom walls charcoal, have hot pink all over the place, wear crazy leggings (zebra print still being my favorite), I travel to cities I have always dreamed of making my home, I meet people I have always wanted to meet.

And do you want to know what is ahhh-ma-zing? I am attracting people who are in the same headspace. People who are happy with themselves, people who have made it big and are still working towards becoming an even better version of themselves.

If you can dream it, you can do it. Reading a book, will not help you. Books offer advice, but it is only once you start doing somethingand you follow through – that everything will fall into place.

“When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment and I told them they didn’t understand life.” – unknown

I am dreaming bigger than ever and yup – I am making it happen.

where good ideas come from.

Thanks to Greg for sharing this one.

mondrian swimwear.

I have been staring at this photo for a while now. Okay, not staring, but I had to look at it a few times during the last few minutes. Wow, that sounds a bit creepy.

It must be the combination of her pose and the color. It is a very striking photo, agree? Tracey Lee Hayes is the photographer. Wow, Tracey.

It definitely has to do with the color of the Mondrian inspired swimwear by Australian designer, Sarah Schofield. In case you did not know, Piet Mondrian was a Dutch painter.

“When the war ended in 1919, Mondrian returned to France, where he would remain until 1938. Immersed in the crucible of artistic innovation that was post-war Paris, he flourished in an atmosphere of intellectual freedom that enabled him to embrace an art of pure abstraction for the rest of his life. Mondrian began producing grid-based paintings in late 1919, and in 1920, the style for which he came to be renowned began to appear.

In the early paintings of this style the lines delineating the rectangular forms are relatively thin, and they are gray, not black. The lines also tend to fade as they approach the edge of the painting, rather than stopping abruptly. The forms themselves, smaller and more numerous than in later paintings, are filled with primary colors, black, or gray, and nearly all of them are colored; only a few are left white.”

the future of the book.

IDEO creates impact through design.

As usual the colors made me look at this. Then I clicked on the play button and now I am lost at IDEO’s website.

Boy, am I loving this? Uh huh, but I still love paging through my books though. It makes me a little sad to think that one day we might not have real books?

If you want, you can share your vision for The Future of the Book.

P.S. All the other IDEO clips are worth the watch.

7d slow motion.

If this is what Oton Bačar calls ‘test footage’, then I do not know anything.

Everything was shot in 720p 60fps – using his Canon 7D – slowed down to 1000fps, and then edited with Twixtor in After Effects.

Determination. There is no better word to describe this clip.
